Hey everyone sorry for being away, i'm gonna start back up with my reviews and today i bring you "It's Kind of a Funny Story".
This film stars Keir Gilchrist who plays Craig a teenager who is very school focused and achievement oriented. The pressure in in his life get's too much for him to handle however between striving for school, his parents pushing him and girl trouble; Craig begins to consider suicide.
Craig goes to the ER to commit himself afraid he may hurt himself. At this point in the movie i felt bad for Craig but at the same time it's one of those things where a lot of teenagers feel depressed from school and social pressures and the film sort of touches on that. We learn that 2 of Craig's friends admit to being depressed and a girl that is in the ward is there from cutting herself.
While in the ward Craig is to stay in the adult ward since they are remodeling the child ward. This is where Craig meets Bobby (Zach Galifianakis). Now i can sit here and talk about how well Zach played this character he was smart, funny and you really became connected with him and his problems. It takes a while for you to find out why Bobby is there or what his story is but once you do, it's very moving.
Bobby become's Craig's guide in the ward he helps him out and Craig also helps out Bobby. It's hard to discuss some of the things they talk about without giving too much away, but i can say that the title of the movie is accurate when it says it's kind of a funny story the whole movie is not laugh out loud funny. It gets serious and really opens your eyes to depression and how some people handle their problems and when it may be too late.
I'm sorry this isnt my best review as i really enjoyed this film and just want to talk about it. I'm having trouble discussing it without spoiling it, but i can say go check it out it's great. Very moving, smart and funny i dont think you will be disappointed. I give it a 9 out of 10
